PAGASA: Warmer days ahead as Amihan to end this weekend
PAGASA on Tuesday advised the public to expect warmer days ahead, saying the Northeast Monsoon or the Amihan season may end this weekend.
Dr. Esperanza Cayanan, the deputy administrator for Research and Development, said wind and pressure analysis indicates the slowly shifting direction of prevailing winds from northeasterly to easterly.
“Considering that these changes in wind pattern and pressure systems are consistent with the changing of seasons, the northeast monsoon is or Amihan season will likely be over by the end of the week,” she said in PAGASA’s climate forum.
“Furthermore, the prevailing weather condition over the country signifies the eventual coming of the warm and dry season. In the coming days, the number of dry and warm days across the country will gradually increase,” she added.
Despite this, she said that isolated thunderstorms are still likely to occur, especially during the afternoons or evenings.
According to Cayanan, the country may experience above-normal rainfall conditions in March due to the ongoing La Nina.
“We still have the ongoing La Nina, which is weakening but may still affect some parts of the country,” she said.
GMA’s resident meteorologist Nathaniel “Mang Tani” Cruz previously said the Philippines may experience an unusual dry season this year due to rains that may occur more than usual.
“The public and all concerned government agencies are advised to take precautionary measures to minimize heat stress, optimize the daily use of water for personal and domestic consumption, and prevent any accompanying health risk associated with this climate condition,” she said. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA News
