PAGASA monitoring two LPAs; rains forecast for Bicol, 9 other areas
State weather bureau PAGASA on Saturday said it is monitoring two low pressure areas which will bring heavy rains over the Bicol Region and nine other areas.
One LPA entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 8 a.m. Saturday.
At 10 a.m., it was located 50 km east southeast of Zamboanga City.
The other LPA developed east of Visayas at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
It was located at 315 km east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar at 10 a.m.
Both LPAs are less likely to become tropical depressions in the next 12 hours.
However, these two LPAs will cause light to moderate with at times heavy rains on Saturday over:
- Bicol Region
- Eastern Visayas
- Aklan
- Antique
- Capiz
- Iloilo
- Romblon
- Palawan (including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo Islands)
- Zamboanga Peninsula
- Sulu Archipelago
Meanwhile, the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
On Sunday, the two LPAs are expected to draw moderate to heavy rains over Aurora, Quezon (including Polillo Islands), and the Bicol Region.
They may also cause light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Mimaropa and the Eastern Visayas.
PAGASA warned of flooding, including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides when rainfall is heavy or prolonged, especially in areas prone to these areas or those that have received a significant amount of rainfall recently.
Nearby and adjacent areas may be flooded as well, even without rainfall, river channels swell.
PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned to take the necessary precautions.
