Over 30 areas still under Signal No. 1 as Vicky moves closer to Davao-Surigao area


Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal number 1 (TCWS #1) still remained over 33 areas as Tropical Depression Vicky slightly slowed down while moving closer toward the Davao Oriental-Surigao del Sur area, PAGASA said Friday.

In its 11 a.m. update, PAGASA said the following areas are under Signal number 1:

Luzon

  • The northern and central portion of Palawan (Puerto Princesa City, Roxas, San Vicente, Dumaran, Araceli, Taytay, El Nido) including Calamian, Cuyo, and Cagayancillo Islands

Visayas

  • The southern portion of Leyte (Baybay City, Javier, Abuyog, Mahaplag, Inopacan, Hindang, Hilongos, Bato, Matalom, Palompon, Merida, Isabel)
  • Southern Leyte

These areas, according to PAGASA, will experience "strong breeze to near gale conditions" during Vicky's passage.

As of 10 a.m. on Friday, Vicky's center was estimated based on all available data at 140 km east of Davao City (07.3 °N, 127.1 °E). It was moving west northwestward at 10 km/h packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.

Tropical Depression Vicky and the Tail-End of a Frontal System (Shear Line) are expected to bring moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Caraga, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Southern Leyte, Leyte, and Bohol, the state bureau added.

Further, light to moderate with at times heavy rains are expected over Bicol Region, the southern portion of Quezon, Lanao del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, and the rest of Visayas, Davao Region, and Northern Mindanao.

PAGASA warned that flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged periods of rainfall, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to the hazards.

The hazards may also occur in localities that received significant antecedent rainfall over the past couple of days or weeks.   --Jamil Santos/KBK, GMA News
