Rolly 'rapidly' weakens into tropical storm; Signal No. 2 in 3 areas


Storm signals across the country have been lowered as Rolly “rapidly” weakened into a tropical storm, PAGASA said late Sunday night.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin, the state weather bureau said the center of the cyclone was last located 150 kilometers northwest of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 105 kph.

Rolly continues to move northwestward at 20 kph and is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday morning.

“It is likely to remain as a tropical storm throughout the forecast period,” PAGASA added.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 was hoisted over the following areas:

  • The western portion of Cavite (Naic, Indang, Mendez, Tagaytay City, Amadeo, Ternate, Maragondon, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Magallanes, Alfonso)
  • The western portion of Batangas (Tingloy, Bauan, Mabini, San Luis, Santa Teresita, Taal, San Nicolas, Agoncillo, Laurel, Talisay, Calaca, Lemery, Tuy, Balayan, Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan)
  • The northern portion of Occidental Mindoro (Abra de Ilog, Mamburao, Paluan) including Lubang Island

Signal No. 1 was raised over:

  • The central portion of Occidental Mindoro (Sablayan, Santa Cruz), the northern portion of Oriental Mindoro (Victoria, Naujan, Calapan City, Baco, San Teodoro, Puerto Galera)
  • The rest of Batangas, Laguna, the northern and western portion of Quezon (Sampaloc, Lucban, Sariaya, Lucena City, Tayabas City, Dolores, Candelaria, Tiaong, San Antonio, Real, General Nakar, Infanta)
  • The rest of Cavite, Rizal, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan
  • The southern portion of Zambales (San Marcelino, San Felipe, San Narciso, San Antonio, Castillejos, Subic, Olongapo City)

Hazards

PAGASA said light to moderate with at times heavy rains may prevail over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon from Sunday night to Monday morning.

Gale-force winds are still expected in areas under Signal No. 2 while strong breeze to near gale conditions may prevail in areas under Signal No. 1.

In other parts of the country, strong breeze to near gale conditions due to the northeasterlies will be experienced over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the northern portion of mainland Cagayan.

PAGASA also said rough to very rough seas will prevail over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and Central Luzon, the western seaboards of Batangas, Occidental Mindoro including Burias Island, and Calamian Islands, and eastern seaboards of Quezon including Polillo Islands and Bicol Region.

Moderate to rough seas will also be experienced over the western seaboards of Palawan including Kalayaan Islands and the eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao. -NB, GMA News
