Signal No. 3 up over parts of Quezon, 5 other areas due to Quinta
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS No. 3) was hoisted over Quezon Province and five other areas on Monday morning due to Typhoon Quinta (international name: Molave), PAGASA said.
The areas under TCWS No. 3 are:
- the southern portion of Quezon (Mulanay, San Francisco, Catanauan, General Luna, Macalelon, Pitogo, Unisan, Agdangan, Padre Burgos, Pagbilao, Lucena City, Sariaya, Candelaria, Tiaong, San Antonio, Dolores, Tayabas City);
- the southern portion of Batangas (Lian, Tuy, San Juan, Rosario, Padre Garcia, Lipa City, Cuenca, San Jose, Ibaan, Taysan, Lobo, Batangas City, Mabini, Tingloy, San Pascual, Bauan, Alitagtag, San Luis, Taal, Santa Teresita, Calatagan, Balayan, Calaca, Lemery, Agoncillo, San Nicolas, Mataas Na Kahoy);
- the northern portion of Romblon (Concepcion, Banton, Corcuera, Romblon, San Agustin, Calatrava, San Andres, Odiongan, Santa Maria);
- Marinduque;
- the northern and central portion of Oriental Mindoro (Oriental Mindoro (Mansalay, Roxas, Bongabong, Bansud, Gloria, Pinamalayan, Pola, Socorro, Victoria, Naujan, Calapan City, Baco, San Teodoro, Puerto Galera); and
- the northern and central portion of Occidental Mindoro (San Jose, Rizal, Calintaan, Sablayan, Santa Cruz, Mamburao, Paluan, Abra de Ilog) including Lubang Island
These areas will have destructive typhoon-force winds with speed of 121-170 km/h, and may experience heavy damage to high-risk structures, PAGASA said.
TCWS No. 2 meanwhile was raised over the following areas:
- Camarines Norte;
- the western portion of Camarines Sur (Siruma, Tinambac, Calabanga, Naga City, Pili, Bula, Balatan, Minalabac, Milaor, Bombon, Magarao, Canaman, Camaligan, Gainza, San Fernando, Pasacao, Pamplona, Cabusao, Libmanan, Sipocot, Lupi, Ragay, Del Gallego);
- Burias Island;
- the rest of Quezon including Polillo Islands;
- Laguna;
- the rest of Batangas;
- Cavite;
- Rizal;
- Metro Manila;
- the southern portion of Bulacan (Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Baliuag, Pulilan, Calumpit, Hagonoy, Paombong, Malolos City, Plaridel, Bustos, San Jose del Monte City, Santa Maria, Pandi, Guiguinto, Balagtas, Bulacan, Bocaue, Meycauayan City, Obando, Marilao);
- the southern portion of Pampanga (Lubao, Sasmuan, Macabebe, Masantol, Minalin, Apalit);
- Bataan;
- the rest of Romblon;
- the rest of Oriental Mindoro;
- the rest of Occidental Mindoro;
- Calamian Islands; and
- the extreme northern portion of Antique (Caluya)
Areas under TCWS No. 2 will have damaging gale to storm-force 61-120 km/h winds prevailing, and may experience light to moderate damage to high risk structures.
TCWS No. 1 on the other hand was raised over:
- Catanduanes;
- the rest of Camarines Sur;
- Albay;
- the western portion of Sorsogon (Donsol, Pilar, Castilla, Sorsogon City, Casiguran, Juban, Magallanes, Bulan, Irosin);
- the northern portion of mainland Masbate (Uson, Mobo, Masbate City, Baleno, Aroroy, Balud, Mandaon, Milagros) including Ticao Island;
- the southern portion of Aurora (Dingalan, San Luis);
- the southern portion of Nueva Ecija (Gabaldon, Laur, Palayan City, General Tinio, Cabanatuan City, Aliaga, Zaragoza, Jaen, San Antonio, Santa Rosa, Peñaranda, Gapan City, San Leonardo, San Isidro, Cabiao);
- the southern portion of Tarlac (La Paz, Tarlac City, San Jose, Concepcion, Capas, Bamban);
- the rest of Bulacan;
- the rest of Pampanga;
- the central and southern portion of Zambales (Iba, Botolan, Cabangan, San Felipe, San Narciso, San Antonio, San Marcelino, Castillejos, Subic, Olongapo City);
- the northern portion of Palawan (El Nido, Taytay) including Cuyo Islands
- the rest of the northern portion of Antique (Laua-An, Barbaza, Tibiao, Culasi, Sebaste, Pandan, Libertad);
- Aklan;
- Capiz; and
- the northern portion of Iloilo (Lemery, Sara, San Dionisio, Batad, Estancia, Carles, Balasan).
Areas under TCWS No. 1 will have strong breeze to near gale conditions of 30-60 km/h winds.
Meanwhile, the Ilocos Region, Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao and northern Zambales will have strong breeze to gale conditions due to the northeasterly surge.
Landfall
Quinta has made five landfalls over the following areas:
- Torrijos, Marinduque
- San Andres, Quezon
- Malinao, Albay
- San Miguel Island, Tabaco City, Albay
- Pola, Oriental Mindoro
The last landfall in Oriental Mindoro before dawn on Monday is expected to be the final coastal crossing of Quinta as it traverses the Philippine landmass to emerge over the West Philippine Sea on Monday morning.

Quinta will then turn west-northwestward on its way to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Tuesday morning.
It is expected to re-intensify after emerging over the West Philippine Sea.
Rainfall
Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains will be felt over Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Calabarzon, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, northern Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, Aklan, Capiz and Antique, due to Quinta.
Meanwhile, the tail-end of a frontal system will also bring moderate to heavy rains over Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.
Light to moderate with at times heavy rains are to be expected over Metro Manila, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and the rest of Luzon and Visayas due to Quinta and the tail-end of a frontal system.
PAGASA warned of flooding, rain-induced landslides, and sediment-laden streamflows or lahars in areas prone to these during times of heavy or prolonged rainfall.
Storm surge, coastal waters
The weather bureau also warned residents in the coastal areas of Camarines Norte, and the northern coastal areas of Quezon including Polillo Islands and Camarines Sur of a possible storm surge of 2 to 3 meters.
The coastal areas of Batangas, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Masbate, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, and the remaining coastal areas of Quezon and Camarines Sur may also have 1- to 2-meter storm surge.
"Rough to high seas (2.5 to 7.0 m) will be experienced over the seaboards of areas under TCWS," PAGASA said.
Meanwhile, in the remaining seaboards of Luzon and the western, northern and eastern seaboards of Visayas, coastal waters will be rough to very rough, with waves reaching as high as 5 meters.
"Sea travel is risky for all types of sea vessels over these waters," PAGASA said.
The other seaboards of the country on the other hand will have moderate to rough seas with waves reaching as high as 3.1 meters.
"Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions," PAGASA said.
Location
At 4 a.m., the eye of Quinta was located at 13.1°N, 121.3°E in the vicinity of Socorro, Oriental Mindoro.
It has maximum sustained winds of 125 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 180 km/h.
Quinta is moving westward at 25 km/h.
The next weather bulletin will be issued at 8 a.m.
Classes
Classes have been canceled on Monday in several areas due to the bad weather caused by Quinta.
