Metro Manila sizzles with 41ºC heat index —PAGASA
State weather bureau PAGASA said Metro Manila experienced a heat index of 41 degrees Celsius on Saturday afternoon, according to a report of 24 Oras Weekend on Saturday.
The 41ºC heat index was recorded at the Science Garden in Quezon City at around 2 p.m.
According to PAGASA, the hot weather was due to the lack of Southwest Monsoon or Habagat prevailing across the country that resulted in less clouds and low chances of raining.
Based on data from MetraWeather, a 40ºC heat index can be experienced in Metro Manila, Calapan, Catbalogan, Iloilo, and Cotabato on Sunday.
Cabanatuan and Tuguegarao are expected to have a 40ºC heat index.
Dagupan is seen to have the hottest heat index on Sunday with 42ºC.
Heat index is the measure of the temperature that a person feels, which is different from the actual air temperature. It is computed by factoring in the humidity as well as the air temperature.
The Southwest Monsoon is affecting the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon on Sunday, PAGASA said in its early morning forecast.
The monsoon and localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers over Metro Manila and the rest of the country. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
