Kristine maintains its strength, exits the PAR

Typhoon Kristine (international name Haishen) maintained its strength even as it exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday evening.

At 10 p.m., Kristine was 1,080 kilometers northeast of extreme northern Luzon with 185 kilometer per hour winds which can gust up to 230 kph.

Kristine was moving north-northwestward at 15 kph and should pass close to the Amami and Tokara Islands in Japan's Ryukyu Archipelago sometime between Sunday noon and evening.

While Kristine was no longer likely to affect the Philippines, a gale warning was issued over the seaboards of the Batanes and Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands.

Sea conditions in these areas would be rough to very rough, making sea travel risky.

The rest of the eastern seaboards of Luzon and the seaboards of the Visayas would meanwhile be moderate to rough.

Small seacraft were advised to take precautions while sailing over these areas. — DVM, GMA News
