LPA to bring scattered rains, thunderstorms over Bicol, parts of Visayas and Mindanao


A Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated at 600 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar while the southwest monsoon will affecting the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao on Wednesday, PAGASA reported.

Bicol Region, the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the LPA and flash floods or landslides may occur due to moderate with at times heavy rains.

MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms brought about by the southwest monsoon with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur due to moderate with at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides may occur in the affected areas during severe thunderstorms.

The weather bureau continues to monitor an active tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), as of 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Severe Tropical Storm Higos (formerly Helen) was located 875 kilometers west northwest of extreme northern Luzon packing maximum sustained winds 100 kilometers per hour near the center with gustiness of up to 20 kph and moving in the west northwest direction at 20 kph.

The wind speed forecast for extreme northern Luzon is moderate moving in the east to southeast direction while coastal waters will be moderate.

The wind speed in the western section of Luzon is light to moderate moving in the southwest to southeast direction as coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

For the rest of Luzon, the wind speed is light to moderate and moving in the northeast to northwest direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

Visayas and Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds moving in the  southwest to west direction as coastal waters will remain slight to moderate.
