Dindo to exit PAR Monday morning; monsoon rains over Luzon areas

Tropical Storm Dindo (international name Hagupit) was forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said Sunday night.

In its 11 p.m. severe weather bulletin, PAGASA said that Dindo was 440 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes with 85 kilometers per hour maximum sustained winds which can gust up to 105 kph.

The tropical storm continued to move northwestward at 10 kph.

“Additional intensification remains likely before the Tropical Storm makes landfall over eastern China by Tuesday early morning. Dindo may reach severe tropical storm category by [Monday] morning,” PAGASA said.

Dindo was not expected to have any direct impact on the Philippines and no warning signals were raised by PAGASA.

Nevertheless, light to moderate with at times heavy rain due to the southwest monsoon could be expected over the Ilocos, Cordillera Administrative, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon Regions. — DVM, GMA News
