Carina to bring rains over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Abra
Scattered light to moderate rains with at times heavy rain showers over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Abra brought about by Tropical Depression Carina on Tuesday, PAGASA reported in its Severe Weather Bulletin.
Carina maintains its strength and is now over the Balintang Channel near the Batanes province, the weather bureau posted in its bulletin issued at 5 a.m.
Flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards.
The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to take appropriate measures and monitor the Rainfall or Thunderstorm Advisories or Heavy Rainfall Warnings of PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
Tropical Depression Carina is forecast to turn northward as it passes near Batanes. The areas under TCWS No. 1 may experience occasional gusts due to the Tropical Depression. It is forecast to weaken into a Low Pressure Area today or tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, moderate to rough seas (1.2-3.1 m) will be experienced over the seaboards of Northern Luzon in the next 24 hours. Those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out to sea.
As of 4 a.m., the center of the Tropical Depression was estimated at 35 kilometers West Southwest of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h moving northwestward at 25 km/h.
On Wednesday morning, Carina is expected to be 260 kilometers north northwest of Basco, Batanes. -- BAP, GMA News
