Carina to bring scattered light to moderate, at times heavy rains over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Batanes, Babuyan Islands
Scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands brought about by Tropical Depression Carina, PAGASA reported in its Severe Weather Bulletin.
Flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards.
The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are advised to take appropriate measures and monitor the Rainfall or Thunderstorm Advisories or Heavy Rainfall Warnings of PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.
The center of Tropical Depression Carina is now moving over Luzon Strait and may pass near Batanes. However, accounting for the forecast track probability cone, a landfall scenario over Batanes remains a possibility.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remain over Batanes and Babuyan Islands wherein residents may experience occasional gusty winds.
As of 1 a.m. on Tuesday, the center of Tropical Depression Carina was estimated at 115 kilometers east Northeast of Calayan, Cagayan or 85 km South Southeast of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h and moving north northwestward at 20 km/h.
The weather bureau adds that this tropical depression may weaken into a Low Pressure Area on Tuesday or Wednesday morning.
The coastal waters will be moderate to rough over the seaboards of northern Luzon in the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out to sea. -- BAP, GMA News
