Dagupan City sizzles with 49°C heat index
The highest heat index in the country on Sunday afternoon was recorded in PAGASA's synoptic station in Dagupan City in Pangasinan at 49°C, the weather bureau said.
This was followed by the apparent temperature of 46°C recorded in the stations in Legazpi City in Albay, Science City of Muñoz in Nueva Ecija ,and Sangley Point in Cavite City.
Aparri in Cagayan and Davao City, meanwhile, both recorded 44°C.
The heat index is the apparent temperature felt by the human body and is computed by factoring in humidity along with the air temperature. PAGASA warned anew that a heat index ranging from 41°C to 54°C may lead to heat cramps and exhaustion. Heat stroke is also possible amid continuous physical activity, it added.
Meanwhile, the PAGASA station at the Science Garden in Quezon City recorded a heat index of 38°C at 3 p.m.
A maximum temperature of 35.6°C was also recorded in the area at the same time. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
