Tisoy makes landfall in Gubat, Sorsogon

Typhoon Tisoy made landfall in Gubat, Sorsogon about 11 p.m. on Monday while 17 areas were placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 , according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the eyewall of Tisoy is causing intense winds and torrential rainfall over Northern Northern Samar, Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Sur, and Sorsogon.

Camarines Norte and Masbate are forecast to be affected by the eyewall within the next two to three hours.

The eye of the cyclone was last located in the coastal waters of Gubat carrying maximum sustained winds of up to 175 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 240 kph.

Tisoy continues to move westward at 15 kph and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday evening.

By Tuesday evening, the typhoon will be 105 kilometers west-northwest of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

By Wednesday evening, it will move to 430 kilometers west of Subic, Zambales.

Storm surge warnings

PAGASA warned of a possible storm surge over 3 meters tall that may occur in several coastal areas in Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.

A storm surge 3 meters in height is also predicted over several coastal areas in Batangas, Quezon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, and Occidental Mindoro.

Sea travel has also been declared as “risky” due to rough sea conditions.
