Quiel, tail-end of cold front to bring rain over parts of Luzon

Severe tropical storm Quiel and the tail-end of a cold front will bring cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rainshowers and thunderstorms over Northern Luzon, Ilocos, Cordillera, and Cagayan Valley on Friday, PAGASA said on Thursday.

According to PAGASA's video update at 5 p.m., weather specialist Benison Estareja added that Quiel will also bring scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan, and the Mindoro provinces.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers will be experienced over Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.

Gale warnings were raised over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, the Northern Coast of Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, the western coast of Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.

PAGASA will release an update on Quiel at 11 p.m. on Thursday.

At 3 p.m., Quiel was estimated at 375 kilometers west northwest of Coron, Palawan with maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

Though Quiel may intensify into a typhoon within 24 hours, PAGASA said it may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday morning up to Saturday midnight.
