Signal No.1 still up over Batanes, Babuyan Islands as Onyok maintains strength

Batanes and Babuyan Islands were still under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as Typhoon Onyok (international name: Mitag) maintained its strength on Monday noon, bringing rains to some parts of northern Luzon, according to PAGASA’s 11 a.m. severe weather bulletin.
Onyok will bring occasional light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains over Batanes, while scattered rain showers during thunderstorms will be over Ilocos Norte, Apayao and Cagayan including Babuyan Islands.
Rough sea conditions are expected over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon, including the areas under Signal No. 1. Due to this, PAGASA warned of risky sea travel for small seacraft.
According to PAGASA, Onyok is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Monday night.
“Kung magpapatuloy naman ito sa inaasahan nating pagkilos, posibleng mamayang gabi ay tuluyan na itong lalabas ng northern boundary ng ating Philippine area of responsibility (PAR),” PAGASA senior weather specialist Chris Perez said at a press briefing.
At 10 a.m., Onyok was located at 200 kilometers north northeast of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 150 kph moving northwest at 20 kph. —Joviland Rita/KBK/KG, GMA News
