PAGASA: Onyok to exit PAR Monday evening

While severe tropical storm Onyok is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday evening, it is still forecast to bring scattered, light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms to Cagayan Valley, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte until Monday afternoon, according to PAGASA.

In its severe weather bulletin issued at 5 p.m. on Sunday, the state weather agency said Onyok continues to intensify as it moves northwestward over the Philippine Sea.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been issued for the Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

As of 4 p.m. on the same day, the center of the severe tropical storm was estimated to be along the east of Calayan, Cagayan.

PAGASA said Onyok is unlikely to make landfall in the country between Sunday and Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, in a thunderstorm advisory issued at 9 p.m. Sunday, the state weather bureau said moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds should be expected over Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Zamboanga del Norte, and Lanao del Sur within one to two hours.

The same conditions are already being experienced in Bukidnon, Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, and nearby areas which are forecast to persist for one to two hours.
