Longer nights to start Sept. 23 due to equinox –PAGASA
The public should expect "longer" nights as the autumnal equinox comes on Monday, September 23, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.
"Autumnal equinox will occur on September 23 at 3:50 PM," PAGASA said. "Hence, thereafter, Philippine nights will be longer as the Sun moves below the celestial equator towards the southern hemisphere."
PAGASA explained that on an equinox, day and night have the same length of approximately 12 hours all over the world.

"The equinoxes are the only times when the solar terminator, or the "edge" between night and day, is perpendicular to the equator," it said.
