Typhoon Liwayway is still expected to bring light to moderate to at time heavy rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands until Thursday evening, according to PAGASA.

In its 11 p.m. bulletin on Wednesday, the weather bureau said Liwayway is heading north northeast towards Ryukyu Islands at 10 kilometers per hour (kph) and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday afternoon or evening.

As of 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Liwayway was located 470 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat may bring scattered light to moderate rains with occasional heavy downpour over Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Residents in these areas were advised to take precautionary measures for possible flash floods and landslides.

PAGASA also warned that maritime travel is risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon due to potentially rough waves.

The low-pressure area being monitored by PAGASA was located at 865 kilometers east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur and is less likely to develop into a tropical depression. — BAP, GMA News
