LPA develops into Tropical Depression Kabayan, will enhance Habagat


The low pressure area west of Calayan, Cagayan has intensified as of 2 a.m. Sunday into a tropical depression now named Kabayan, PAGASA said in its early morning forecast.

Kabayan will have no direct effect on the country but will enhance the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, bringing rain to the western part of Luzon and Visayas.

The Ilocos region, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and western Visayas will be cloudy and have scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the Habagat.

The rest of Luzon meanwhile will have fair weather with brief rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.

The Bicol region and the rest of Visayas will have fair weather with isolated rainshowers.

As of 3 a.m. Sunday, Kabayan was located 335 km west northwest of Aparri, Cagayan or 300 km west of Calayan, Cagayan.

It has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/hr near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph. Kabayan is moving west at a speed of 20 km/hr and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility within the day.

Meanwhile, the trough or extension of a  low pressure area located as of 3 a.m. 540 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur will bring rain to almost the whole Mindanao.

Mindanao will be cloudy with scattered rainshowers  and thunderstorms.

PAGASA said the following key areas will have temperatures in these ranges:

  • Tuguegarao: 24ºC-31ºC
  • Laoag: 24ºC-28ºC
  • Baguio: 15ºC-20ºC
  • Olongapo: 24ºC-30ºC
  • Metro Manila: 25ºC-30ºC
  • Tagaytay: 22ºC-29ºC
  • Lipa: 24ºC-30ºC
  • Legazpi: 25ºC-31ºC
  • Puerto Princesa: 24ºC-31ºC
  • Iloilo/Bacolod: 26ºC-30ºC
  • Metro Cebu: 26ºC-31ºC
  • Tacloban: 26ºC-30ºC
  • Cagayan de Oro: 23ºC-32ºC
  • Valencia: 21ºC-30ºC
  • Metro Davao: 25ºC-31ºC
  • Zamboanga: 24ºC-33ºC

 

A gale warning has been raised in the following areas due to Kabayan:

  • Batanes
  • Calayan
  • Babuyan
  • northern coast of Cagayan
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • Zambales
  • Bataan

These areas will have waves ranging from 2.8 to 4.5 meters, and the sea will be rough to very rough.

Fishermen with small seacraft were advised not to go out to sea.

High tide will be at 11:14 a.m. (1.33 meters) and at 12:29 a.m. (0.64 meters).

Low tide will be at 6:35 p.m. (0.15 meters).
