Signal No. 2 up over 3 areas as Jenny intensifies into tropical storm


 


Three areas have been placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 as Tropical Depression Jenny has intensified into a tropical storm, according to PAGASA's 11 a.m. bulletin on Tuesday.

The three areas under TCWS No. 2 were Isabela, Aurora and Quirino.

Meanwhile, 26 areas were under TCWS No. 1, namely:

  • Cagayan,
  • Nueva Vizcaya,
  • Apayao,
  • Abra,
  • Kalinga,
  • Mountain Province,
  • Ifugao,
  • Benguet,
  • Ilocos Norte,
  • Ilocos Sur,
  • La Union,
  • Pangasinan,
  • Nueva Ecija,
  • Tarlac,
  • Zambales,
  • Bataan,
  • Pampanga,
  • Bulacan,
  • Metro Manila,
  • Rizal, northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands,
  • Cavite,
  • Laguna,
  • Camarines Norte,
  • northeastern portion of Camarines Sur,
  • Catanduanes

The foul weather has prompted many local government units in affected areas to suspend classes for the day.

Some flights were also canceled on Tuesday.

Landfall seen

As of 10 a.m., Jenny was spotted at 360 km east northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte or 490 km East of Infanta, Quezon packing maximum sustained winds of up to 65 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h.

It was moving west northwest at 25 km/h, PAGASA said, adding it is seen to make landfall in Aurora on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. 

Weather forecast

PAGASA said intermittent to frequent moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over Bicol Region, Samar Provinces, Quezon, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Isabela and Cagayan within the day.

Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains, meanwhile, will affect Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas, and the regions of Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Bangsamoro.

"The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next Severe Weather Bulletin to be issued at 2 p.m. today," PAGASA said. —KBK/KG, GMA News
