Typhoon Hanna may exit PAR Thursday night —PAGASA

Typhoon Hanna may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) late Thursday evening or early Friday morning, according to PAGASA.

In its 5 p.m. severe weather bulletin, the state weather bureau said that Hanna maintained its strength with maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph.

As of 4 p.m., Hanna was located 505 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes and is moving north-northwest at 20 kph, approaching the southern part of the Ryukyu Islands.

Signal No. 1 is still raised in Batanes.

The outer rainbands of Hanna and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat is expected to bring light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains and gusty winds over Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands until Friday.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro and northern portions of Palawan including Calamian Islands, may experience moderate to heavy monsoon rains until Friday afternoon.

Metro Manila, Western Visayas, Calabarzon, and the rest of Central Luzon and Mimaropa may also have moderate to at times heavy rains due to Habagat.

Residents in the said areas were advised to take precautionary measures for possible flash floods and landslides.

PAGASA also warned that sea travel is risky in the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas and the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao as rough waves are expected.

The low-pressure area that was being monitored west of northern Luzon has already dissipated.

On the other hand, Typhoon Krosa which was located 1,950 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon is almost stationary and is not expected to enter the PAR, according to PAGASA. —NB, GMA News
