Tropical Depression Chedeng enters PAR

A state weather bureau official on Sunday said the tropical depression east of Mindanao entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) at about 1 p.m. and would be named "Chedeng".

PAGASA's Gener Quitlong, in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, said Chedeng has remained a tropical depression with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph, which could gust up to 60 kph.

It is moving at 25 kph on its westward path heading toward the Davao region in eastern Mindanao.

Quitlong said the weather system has no direct effect yet on any part of the country as it is still 980 kilometers from the Davao region.

If it maintains its speed, Chedeng would make landfall by Monday or Tuesday, he added.

PAGASA's next weather bulletin will be issued by 5 p.m. —LBG/KG, GMA News
