7 provinces still under Signal No. 3 as Rosita heads to Benguet

Seven provinces in Luzon are still under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 3 as Typhoon Rosita tracks the direction going to Benguet province, PAGASA said late Tuesday morning.

In its 11 a.m. update, the weather agency said Rosita, which made landfall in Isabela early Tuesday morning, would traverse the provinces of Benguet, La Union and Pangasinan.

TCWS No. 3 has been hoisted in the following areas:

  • Ifugao
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Benguet
  • Mountain Province
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Pangasinan
  • La Union

TCWS No. 2, meanwhile, was raised in the following provinces:

  • Cagayan
  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Aurora
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Apayao
  • Abra
  • Kalinga
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Tarlac
  • Zambales
  • Pampanga

PAGASA warned that stormy weather would be experienced in provinces under TCWS Nos. 3 and 2. It said land travel is risky in these areas.

On the other hand, TCWS No. 1 is raised in these areas:

  • Babuyan Group of Islands
  • Bulacan
  • Northern Quezon including Polillo Island
  • Bataan
  • Rizal
  • Metro Manila
  • Cavite
  • Laguna
  • Batangas

PAGASA spotted the eye of Rosita in the vicinity of Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya at 10 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 230 kilometers per hour.

Rosita moves west southwest at 25 kilometers per hour.

According to PAGASA, moderate to heavy rains will prevail in northern and Central Luzon, and that residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, low-lying areas and mountainous areas, are advised to take measures against possible floods and landslides.

Storme surge of up to three meters is still possible in coastal areas of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union and Pangasinan, PAGASA said.

Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of areas with TCWS and the eastern and western seaboards of Southern Luzon.

PAGASA reiterated that Rosita may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Wednesday evening.

Even before Rosita made landfall, local government units in areas that will be affected by the typhoon have started preparations, including preemptive evacuations.

Classes were also canceled in these affected areas, including Metro Manila.

Most local government units of the provinces said that they are well-prepared for the Typhoon Rosita.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. So far, the typhoon's strong winds and rains bent trees and scattered loose debris across roads. —KBK, GMA News
