Typhoon Paeng exits the PAR; maintains strength, course

Typhoon Paeng (international name Trami) maintained its strength and course even as it exited the northern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 6 a.m., weather service PAGASA reported on Saturday morning.

Paeng will have no direct effect on the country, PAGASA said.

However, the weather bureau warned against sea travel as it still remains risky over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon.

Paeng's eye was located 730 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes as of 7 a.m.

It had maximum sustained winds of up to 160 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph.

Paeng was moving north at 15 kph.

Meanwhile, the entire country could expect partly cloudy to cloudy conditions accompanied with isolated rain showers.

Winds would be strong to gale force from the northwest to southwest over the northern and eastern sections of Luzon, where coastal waters would be rough to very rough.

Over eastern sections of the Visayas and Mindanao, winds would be moderate to strong from the southwest with moderate to rough coastal sea conditions.

Finally, winds over the rest of the country would be light to moderate from the west to southwest with slight to moderate coastal waters. —DVM/KG, GMA News
