PAGASA: Paeng continues to head north, enhances Habagat

Typhoon Paeng (international name: Trami) continued to move northward as it enhanced the southwest monsoon, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday.

In its 4 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA spotted Paeng at 735 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 160 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 195 kph.

Paeng continued to slowly move toward the north, PAGASA said.

The weather bureau noted that areas such as Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Palawan, Mindoro, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi would experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon.

Flashfloods and landslides may occur in those areas because of scattered light to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will encounter partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also said it continues to monitor the low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). At present, it has no direct effect to the country.

PAGASA spotted the LPA at 3,225 km east of Mindanao. It may enter PAR on Monday or Tuesday next week. — MDM, GMA News
