Typhoon Soulik outside PAR may enhance Habagat

Typhoon Soulik, which is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), may slightly enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) on Tuesday, PAGASA said on Monday.

The monsoon may cause occasional moderate to heavy rains in Extreme Northern Luzon which includes Babuyan Islands, Batanes, and the northern parts of Ilocos Norte.

At 10 a.m. Monday, the center or eye of Soulik was spotted at 1,580 kilometers east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon.

It had maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.

Soulik is moving west at 15 kph but is not forecast to enter the PAR.

PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned to take the necessary precautions. —KG, GMA News
