Quedan maintains strength, north-northwest direction


Severe Tropical Storm Quedan has maintained its strength and continues to move over the east Philippine Sea, PAGASA reported in its Severe Weather Bulletin issued late Thursday evening.

As of 10 p.m. on Thursday, Quedan was estimated to be 940 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 90 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 115 kph.

Quedan continues to move north northwest at 21 kph and is expectd out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday evening or 1,655 km northeast of Basco, Batanes.

The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 750 km diameter of the Severe Tropical Storm.

The outer rainbands of Quedan will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over the eastern section of Luzon.

The state weather bureau warned that sea travel is risky over the seaboards of northern Luzon and eastern seaboard of central and southern Luzon. — BAP, GMA News
