Storm Jolina weakens further after crossing Luzon landmass


Tropical Storm Jolina (Pakhar) weakened further as it exited westward from the north Luzon landmass on Saturday morning, state weather Bureau PAGASA said.

PAGASA's Samuel  Duran told dzBB radio that TS Jolina maintained its maximum sustained winds at 65 kph and gustiness of up 80 kph, and was moving on its west-northwest path at 20 kph Saturday morning.

In its 8 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA reported that Jolina was over the western coast of Ilocos Norte.

Jolina is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday evening.

The storm's center was located at 7 a.m. 75 kilometers west southwest of Laoag City in Ilocos Norte.

Estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the storm's 300 km diameter.

Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 2 was down to two provinces:

  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur

Areas under Signal 1 were:

  • La Union,
  • Apayao,
  • Isabela,
  • Quirino,
  • Kalinga,
  • Mountain Province,
  • Ifugao,
  • Benguet,
  • Abra, and
  • Nueva Vizcaya

PAGASA also reported that monsoon rains are expected over the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon.

Light to moderate with possible occasionally heavy rains due to thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of Luzon.

Residents in the mentioned areas are warned against possible flash floods and landslides while sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon. —LBG, GMA News
