Auring makes fourth landfall in Bohol


Tropical Depression Auring made its fourth landfall in Ubay, Bohol on Monday morning, weather bureau PAGASA said.

As of 7 a.m., the center of the cyclone was in the vicinity of Talibon, Bohol or 40 kilometers southeast of Mactan, Cebu.

The cyclone was slightly weaker, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 75 kph. It was moving west at 9 kph.

It made its first landfall in Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte late Sunday afternoon.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 1 was hoisted over:

  • Cuyo Island
  • Bohol
  • Siquijor
  • Negros Provinces
  • Southern Leyte
  • Cebu including Camotes Island
  • Guimaras
  • Capiz
  • Iloilo
  • southern part of Antique
  • Camiguin

As the cyclone has slowed down, PAGASA said it is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday morning instead of Thursday as earlier forecast.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard said at least 9,000 people have been stranded at ports in areas affected by the cyclone.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's units in the affected areas are on alert. —ALG/KG, GMA News
