Typhoon Lawin exits Luzon, Cyclone Warning 3 still up in N. Luzon
Typhoon Lawin (international name: Haima) crossed through Northern Luzon in the early hours of Thursday, losing strength as it made its way over land.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 remains in effect in a few areas in Northern Luzon that are in the typhoon's wake.
Lawin made landfall in Penablanca, Cagayan, at 11 p.m. Wednesday, as a supertyphoon with sustained winds of 225 kph and gusts of up to 315 kph. It proceeded through Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte, cutting a swath of intense rains, strong winds, and rough seas through Northern Luzon despite weakening overnight.
As of 7 a.m., Lawin was posited off the coast of Ilocos Norte some 40 km northwest of Laoag City. It had weakened into a maximum strength of 185 kph with gusts of 230 kph, and is currently moving west-northwest at 22 kph toward the western boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Lawin is expected to be out of the PAR by late Thursday.
As of 7 a.m., Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 3 was raised over the following areas, which can expect winds of up to 170 kph within the next 18 hours:

- Cagayan
- Isabela
- Apayao
- Kalinga
- Mt. Province
- Ifugao
- Abra
- Calayan Group of Islands
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 2 was raised over the following areas, which can expect winds of up to 120 kph within the next 24 hours:
- Batanes Group of Islands
- La Union
- Benguet
- Nueva Vizcaya
- Quirino
- Pangasinan
- Aurora
- Tarlac
- Nueva Ecija
- Northern Zambales
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 was raised over the following areas, which can expect winds of up to 60 kph within the next 36 hours:
- The rest of Zambales
- Bulacan
- Bataan
- Pampanga
