Kabayan makes landfall in Aurora province
Tropical Storm "Kabayan" has made landfall over the Baler-San Luis area in Aurora province, PAGASA said in an update posted on Facebook early Friday morning.
PAGASA earlier forecast Kabayan to bring rainfall of moderate to heavy intensity within its 300-kilometer span.
PAGASA said it will issue its next severe weather bulletin on Kabayan at 5:00 a.m. Friday. By that time, the latest track or path of the storm would be known.
The track could be affected by the interaction of Kabayan with the terrain into which it slammed upon landfall and afterward.
Kabayan's wind strength and pace could also be affected or possibly decrease because of the interaction with the terrain, which is mountainous because of the southern Sierra Madre range.
To the west of Baler is Pantabangan Dam while southwest of Baler is Angat Dam. Pantabangan Dam supplies irrigation water to Central Luzon.
The Pantabangan watershed area "is situated in the municipalities of Pantabangan and Carranglan in the province of Nueva Ecija, municipalities of Alfonso Castañeda and Dupax del Sur, province of Nueva Vizcaya and Maria Aurora in the province of Aurora", according to the National Power Corporation which manages the area together with the National Irrigation Authority.
