Typhoon Ineng weakens, will exit PAR on Monday

Typhoon Ineng weakened slightly on Saturday afternoon as it moved north northwest of Batanes, PAGASA said in its 5 p.m. tropical cyclone update.

Ineng was located 105 km east northeast of Basco, Batanes as of 4 p.m., with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of 185 kph.

The storm, which is traveling north northeast at 13 kph, is expected to be 405 km northeast of Basco on Sunday morning and 1035 km northeast outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday.

Because of the typhoon's strength and proximity, Batanes is still under Public Storm Warning Signal No. 3, while northern Cagayan, Calayan, and the Babuyan Group of Islands, remain under Public Storm Warning Signal Number 2. The rest of Cagayan, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Kalinga, and Abra are still under Signal Number 1.

Northern Luzon will also have moderate to strong winds blowing from the northwest to west.

The rest of Luzon will experience monsoon rains from Habagat or southwest monsoon, enhanced by Typhoon Ineng.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will prevail over Visayas while Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms.

The entire archipelago will have moderate to rough waters, with the western seaboard of northern and Central Luzon, eastern seaboard of northern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, and the seaboards of southern Luzon placed under a gale warning due to strong to gale force winds from an enhanced Habagat. — Rie Takumi/JDS, GMA News
