Super Typhoon Yolanda hits Iloilo


Typhoon Yolanda has made landfall over Concepcion, Iloilo, PAGASA's 12:00 PM hourly update said.
 
The storm is expected to make landfall in the island of Panay between 12:00 to 1:00 PM and then pass through the southern part of Mindoro between 6:00 to 7:00 PM and Busuanga, Palawan, Friday.
 
Yolanda has maintained its strength but increased in speed as it crossed the Visayas. Its maximum sustained winds near the center and gustiness have remained steady at 215 kph 250 kph, respectively, but it is now forecast to move west-northwest at 40 kph.
 
At 10:40 AM Friday, Yolanda made landfall in Bantayan Island, Cebu, according to PAGASA's 11:00 AM hourly update.
 
The typhoon first hit Guiuan, Eastern Samar, at 4:40 AM. It made landfall in Dulag-Tolosa area in Leyte at 7:00 AM, and barreled through Daang Bantayan, Cebu at around 10:00 AM.
 
Yolanda is expected to be 245 km west of Ambulong, Batangas, by Saturday morning, and 743 km West of Subic Zambales or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday afternoon, at around 1:00 to 2:00 PM.

Yolanda is expected to bring heavy to intense rainfall (10 to 20 mm per hour) within the 400 kilometers of its 600-kilometer diameter.
 
Sea conditions in the northern Luzon seaboards and the eastern seaboard of central Luzon are unfavorable for setting sail. Fishermen and seafarers are advised not to set sail in the said areas.
 
In a press conference Friday morning, PAGASA warned of storm surges on the coasts of Panay provinces, Negros provinces, Palawan, and Mindoro.
 
Areas under Public Storm Signal Numbers 4, 3, and 2 are advised to watch out for possible flashfloods and landslides.
 
Coastal areas under Signal Numbers 4, 3, and 2 are advised to watch out for possible storms urges or unexpected large waves of up to seven meters high brought about by Typhoon Yolanda.
 
It is expected to leave the Philippine landmass from 8:00 to 10:00 PM as it moves toward the West Philippine Sea.
