PAGASA raises Public Storm Warning Signal 1 over parts of Visayas, Mindanao
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration raised Public Storm Warning Signal 1 in areas of Visayas and Mindanao on Wednesday night as Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) was about to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Anticipating winds of 30-60 kilometers per hour within the next 36 hours, PAGASA raised Signal Number 1 over:
- Northern Samar
- Eastern Samar
- Samar, Leyte
- Southern Leyte
- Biliran Island and Camotes Island
- Surigao Del Norte including Siargao Island
- Dinagat Island
- Surigao Del Sur
- Agusan Del Norte
- Northern part of Agusan Del Sur
Sea travel in these areas and along the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas will be risky, PAGASA said.
As of PAGASA's 11:00 p.m. bulletin, Yolanda was 1,100 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur and is expected to be 423 km east southeast of Guian Eastern Samar by Thursday evening and 55 km southeast of Romblon Island by Friday Evening.
The typhoon is forecast to be 527 km west northwest of Coron, Palawan by Saturday evening.

The typhoon, which is moving west northwest at 30 kph,is expected to have maximum sustained winds of 195 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph.
Heavy to intense rains, or from 10 to 30 millimeters per hour, is expected within the 600-km diameter of the typhoon. — JDS, GMA News
