Here comes the sun?
Metro Manila and Southern Luzon will finally see a respite from heavy rains, but the rest of Luzon is cautioned about further rains until the weekend.
Metro Manila and Southern Luzon will finally see a respite from heavy rains, but the rest of Luzon is cautioned about further rains until the weekend.
Although TS Maring (Trami) moved out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) early Wednesday morning, it continues to pull at the Habagat southwest monsoon which, in turn, will bring rains to Western and Northern Luzon until the weekend.
"We can say the worst is over for Southern Luzon as far as Habagat rains are concerned,” said GMA News' resident meteorologist, Nathaniel "Mang Tani" Cruz.
Better weather in South Luzon, Manila by Thursday
He said that Maring's current movement means that the weather in Metro Manila and Southern Luzon will get better starting Thursday, but the rest of Luzon may continue to experience rains until Friday.
"(Maring) is now moving westward, so yung Habagat is going with her. Habang gumagalaw siya, yung Habagat sumusunod din. So improving ang weather from (South Luzon) going northward (as the weekend approaches)," he said.
"Starting tomorrow (Thursday), sa southern part of Luzon, most likely improved na ang weather conditions. (But) yung western sections of Central and Northern Luzon—yang Bataan, Zambales, Ilocos—maybe hindi bukas yan kundi maybe Friday pa mag-i-improve ang weather condition," Mang Tani added.
PAGASA weather forecaster Gener Quitlong agreed, adding that Luzon may expect "good weather" by Sunday.
"Habang hindi pa nawawala yang si Maring may epekto pa yan sa Habagat. Pero mamayang gabi maglalandfall na yan (sa Taiwan). Unti-unti na ring gaganda yung panahon natin. Siguro by Sunday, ayun na, good weather na dito," he said.
Yellow Rainfall Advisory
Because of improving weather conditions, PAGASA has downgraded its Rainfall Advisory for Metro Manila and nearby areas from Orange to Yellow as of 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The same areas were under Red Warning at the height of rains and floods on Monday.
PAGASA noted moderate to heavy rains over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Rizal, Cavite, Bataan and portions of Laguna, Tarlac, Quezon, Occidental Mindoro and Zambales, which may continue until early evening.
"FLOODING in low-lying areas may still prevail," it cautioned.
5 p.m. PAGASA bulletin
"Metro Manila, Ilocos region, Central Luzon, the province of Benguet and the Batanes and Babuyan group of islands will experience monsoon rains which may trigger flash floods and landslides," PAGASA said in its 5 p.m. bulletin on Wednesday.
PAGASA added that the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas will have "cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms".
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Thursday outlook
For Thursday, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds from the south to southwest will prevail throughout the archipelago, and coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
Meanwhile, strong to gale-force winds associated with the southwest monsoon may affect the seaboards of Luzon.
"Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," PAGASA said. — with Kim Luces/HS, GMA News
