NPC warns parents of sharing baby's photos in online contests

The National Privacy Commission (NPC) on Thursday warned parents to be careful in joining contests on social media that ask for baby photos.
While these requests may seem safe, the commission said pictures of parents' children could be used for online sexual and exploitation.
"May nakita ka bang post na nanghihikayat sa parents na mag-comment ng pictures ng kanilang babies kapalit ng pera o premyo? Mukhang harmless, pero delikado!" the NPC said in an advisory.
(Have you seen a post encouraging parents to reply in the comment section the photos of their babies in exchange for money or other prizes? It might look harmless, but it's dangerous!)

The NPC added that sharing photos could also give away information to the public that might be used for other crimes.
"Huwag hayaang maging biktima ang inyong anak! Think before you post. Protektahan natin ang privacy at digital future nila," said NPC.
(Don't let your children become victims! Think before you post. Let's protect their privacy and digital future.)
A study conducted by the International Justice Mission Philippines and the University of Nottingham in 2022 showed that 500,000 Filipino children were victims of online sexual abuse and exploitation.
Cybersecurity experts have also warned that some online applications now have the ability to digitally undress individuals in photos because of artificial intelligence. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
