Filipino engineer uses mixed reality to simulate chem lab, look into animal cell
A mixed reality program developed by a team of Filipino engineers may just become the next big thing in educational innovation.
According to Martin Javier's Game Changer report on "24 Oras," “Parallaxed” was a virtual reality software developed by Engineer Albertson Amante and his team from the Batangas State University to provide hands-on experience for students with the use of mixed reality.
“There's a gap in access to laboratories. It can be very expensive, sometimes it can be very dangerous to perform such experimentation. So, what we've come up with is something that is virtual,” Amante said.
Using Parallaxed, students would be able to take a closer look and interact with microscopic cells, or operate and conduct complicated experiments in a safe environment using a virtual chemistry laboratory.
“Meron kaming mga developers, composed yung mga graphic artists, mga experts into virtual reality and 3D design. (We have developers, composed of graphic artists, and experts of virtual reality and 3D design.) We also have some resource persons because we're talking about subject matter experts,” Amante added.
Parallaxed was developed in 2023 with a grant from the Department of Science and Technology-Technology Application and Promotion Institute.
Earlier, Amante’s team also used mixed reality for “Mr. Tour Guide,” which allowed users to virtually visit Batangas City's heritage sites.—Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
