AI to expedite analysis, reporting digital evidence - CICC

Artificial intelligence (AI) can “supercharge” the analysis and processing of digital evidence, according to the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC).

In a public briefing Tuesday, CICC Deputy Executive Director Mary Rose Magsaysay stressed the importance of AI in identifying, analyzing, and reporting digital evidence, saying the technology can expedite its processing from months to seconds.

“Ang artificial intelligence ay nagsusupercharge ng ating mga cyberanalysts…Certain number of evidence lang ang kaya niyang tingnan sa isang araw pero if may AI, nasu-supercharge to dahil nagagawa niya ang pag-parse o pagtingin sa lahat ng datos para makuha lahat ng ebidensya na at a speed of seconds na minsan ginagawa natin ng isang buwan,” said Magsaysay.

(Artificial intelligence supercharges our cyberanalysts...They can only review a certain number of pieces of evidence in a day, but with AI, it's supercharged because it can parse or review all the data to gather all the evidence at a speed of seconds, which would have taken us a month to accomplish.)

“Ang AI ay malaking tulong para wala tayong backlog sa mga kaso...Maski isang tao lang ang gumagalaw maraming kaso ang puwedeng i-solve simultaneously,” she said.

(AI is a huge help in eliminating backlogs in our cases. Even with just one person working, multiple cases can be solved simultaneously.)

Magsaysay said the technology is considered “cross border” and its analyzed digital evidence may be used in various courts in different countries.

''Lahat ‘yan iva-validate at itatabla sa ating bansa…Namamalagi pa rin ‘yung rerespetuhin natin what is local to us kasi Pilipino tayo,” she said.

''We will still validate it and align it with our laws. Local norms must be respected since we are Filipinos.) —VBL, GMA Integrated News
