Pisay Cordillera students top DOST game app competition

Students from the Philippine Science High School-Cordillera Administrative Region topped the app development competition for the youth hosted by the Department of Science and Technology-National Academy of Science and Technology (DOST-NAST).

Technolikha members Lloy Gladwin, Jonavel Adawe, Samantha Samson, and Yael Solimen developed the app “Telling Science Top Down,” which aims to tackle issues concerning the biosphere, a region of the Earth where life exists.

“The game includes a series of puzzles that must be solved by the player, Dr. Likha. The character is inspired by the concept that individual actions and participation are instrumental in creating change and, ultimately, in saving a deteriorating world,” the DOST said in a press release.

Samson said the ''best gift one generation can give to the next is a healthy planet.''

Team V2En Tech from Valencia National High School landed second place with their app ''Rebuild,'' while Team BACONater from the Philippine Science High School-CAR and Team BUZZ-IO from Muntinlupa Science High School tied for third.

During the competition, finalists from different schools unleashed their creativity in addressing real-world issues through mobile game applications.

The awarding ceremony was held during the second day of the 2024 National Youth Science, Technology, and Innovation Festival (NYSTIF) on September 19, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Forum Tent in Pasay City.

Now in its second year, the NYSTIF seeks to enhance young people's appreciation and awareness of science, technology, and innovation (STI) and provide a dynamic STEM experience to inspire young people to pursue careers in these fields. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
