Using AI apps? CICC advises to use different email ad, phone number for safety

While artificial intelligence (AI) provides instant solutions, signing up for such software or mobile applications could possibly leak any personal information.

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) on Friday advised the public to better create another email address or use another phone number when using AI software for safety.

“Definitely when you use AI, you will be onboarding platforms and when you onboard platforms you’ll be putting in your personal identifiable information again,” said CICC Deputy Executive Director Mary Rose Magsaysay at a public briefing.

“So usually ang suggestion ko if you’re gonna go into AIs, you set up another account na hindi naka-link sa mga emails - personal emails, birth emails. Gumawa kayo ng specific account na gagamitin niyo pang-onboard sa mga platforms ng AI [...] specify a cellphone number that you will only dedicate to that,” she added.

(So usually what I suggest when getting into AIs, you set up another account that is not linked to your emails - personal emails, birth emails. Create another account that you will use specifically for the AI platforms…Specify a cellphone number that you will only dedicate to that.)

The CICC also highly discourages using work emails when using AI services to avoid possible data breach.

“Especially the work email kasi diyan pumapasok ang breaches (Especially the work emails, because that is where data breaches start). You are giving away your information. Sometimes the AI is free. Worse, if it’s free, you are the product,” said Magsaysay.

However, even paid AI services don't mean “they are not sucking up your information.”

Although some people find it fun, the CICC also warned to be careful of using AI image alteration programs on social media.

“Everything has a cost…Technology has the most expensive cost. So the more you can protect yourself, the less cost it is to you and damage to your family, to your work, and to your community,” said Magsaysay. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
