PNP-Anti-Cybercrime Group notes hike in hijack profile scam cases
The Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) is warning the public to be careful in clicking the links posted on social media to avoid falling victim to the hijack profile scam, according to a report on "State of the Nation."
If one clicks on the link that offers work or a prize, there is a possibility that one's account would be hijacked or used to ask money or borrow money from the contacts linked to the account.
The contacts, in turn, would think that the user is the one asking for money or borrowing money.
There were 89 cases of hijack profile scam recorded by the PNP-ACG last February 2024. The figure is three times more compared to January 2024 in which there were only 27 cases reported.
