Deal on AI-powered weather forecasting system inked

SAN FRANCISCO, USA — An artificial intelligence meteorology company, Atmo Inc., signed a deal with the Philippines' Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for the creation of a high-resolution weather forecasting system in the country that will utilize AI technology.

On Thursday (PH time), President Ferdinand "Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. witnessed the signing of the memorandum of agreement between DOST Undersecretary Maridon Sahagun and Atmo Inc. Founder and CEO Alexander Levy.

“Atmo and the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) partnership on an AI-powered weather forecasting system will help the Philippines build its climate resilience,” Marcos said.

The Presidential Communications Office said that this would be Asia’s largest AI-driven weather forecasting program, which is expected to play a pivotal role in bolstering the Philippines’ resilience.

The MOA on weather forecasting is seen to help the Philippines considering that it is one of the countries most affected by typhoons.

Earlier, Marcos said the Philippines is ready to embrace AI as he urged technology firms to partner with the Philippines when it comes to what he described as a "technological revolution."

Marcos expressed belief that the AI could uplift the lives of Filipinos, increase the productivity of enterprises, and enhance the competitiveness of the country's economy. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
