YouTube, TikTok most popular apps for Pinoy kids from Jan.-March —cybersecurity firm
Cybersecurity and digital privacy company Kaspersky on Wednesday said video streaming platforms YouTube and TikTok are the most popular apps for Filipino kids.
Based on its data from January to March, Kaspersky said Filipino children are currently “extremely interested” in video content.
“Statistics from the cybersecurity company show that the top five applications young Pinoy kids are spending time most on are YouTube (26.46%), TikTok (16.75%) Messenger (16.07%), the popular game Roblox (13.67%), and Facebook (9.11%),” it said in a statement.
Other favorite apps of Filipinos kids are Chrome browser (6.39%), YouTube Kids (3.54%), Netflix (3.08%), according to Kaspersky.
Gaming apps such as Call of Duty (2.56%) and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (2.37%) are also on the list.
Kaspersky managing director for Asia Pacific Sandra Lee called on parents to have a discussion with their kids about their responsibility and safety in using the internet.
“Although, having not gone back physically to school since the pandemic, I understand that the majority of these kids are relying on the Internet not just for study but also for play and entertainment, most likely because of remote learning blues,” Lee said.
“We encourage parents to stay informed and commit to sitting down with their kids extensively as it's an effective way to keep their children responsible and safe digital citizens," she added.
Worldwide data showed that YouTube still ranked the most popular app for kids at 31.6% followed by TikTok at 19%, WhatsApp at 18%, Roblox at 7.5%, and Chrome at 7.3%.
Kaspersky reviewed data like search queries, the most popular Android applications, and website categories from its Safe Kids products users for the study. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
