At the heart of the most talked about hair dryer is a motor that's actually made in the Philippines!
People have been gushing about Dyson hair dryers since it first arrived in the Philippines roughly three years ago.
Apart from a sleek design, it's super lightweight making it easy to lug around. Besides, there's something about the hair dryer's airflow, so different from everything else, that makes styling one's hair incredibly easy and let's admit it, fun to do.
But did you know that at the heart of it is a motor that's made in the Philippines?
In a recent virtual press meet, Dyson's chief operating officer Scott Maguire shared that the Dyson Digital Motor (DDM) is actually made in the Philippines, in the Dyson Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Laguna, in fact.
The motor has several versions used for various products — the V10 for the popular vacuum cleaner, the D9 for hair stylers — and they're all made in the Philippines.
"The DDMs are inside our vacuum cleaner, hand dryers, hairdryers and hair stylers," Maguire said. "The fact that they are so small, light, and efficient allows them to get right into our products, and all those motor are made in the Philippines."
The DDM is among the world's fastest and lightest motors, and it sits at the heart of most Dyson products.
According to a press statement, a DDM comes off the automated lines of the Laguna facility every 2.6 seconds.
In 2019 in fact, Dyson's Philippine facility surpassed the milestone of having built more than 20 million motors.
The UK company on Friday announced its plans of opening a software lab in Alabang, which is seen to create around 400 jobs for highly skilled software engineers in the Philippines over the next three yers.
The facility in Laguna, established in 2016, employed 600 people and produces 13 million motors a year. — LA, GMA News
