‘PBA Basketball Slam: Arcade Edition’ now on Steam Early Access
Pinoy-made sports game “PBA Basketball Slam: Arcade Edition” has just been released on Steam Early Access.
It is the PC version of “Basketball Slam 2020,” a top-rated mobile game that has seen millions of downloads on the Google Play Store.
Developed by Ranida Games, “PBA Basketball Slam: Arcade Edition” features the teams and players of Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). It is a 2-on-2 arcade-style full court basketball game boasting over-the-top action allowing players to perform high-flying dunks and other electrifying moves. Its exaggerated gameplay and presentation were inspired by the “NBA Jam” series, which saw massive popularity throughout the ‘90s.
The current Early Access version of “PBA Basketball Slam: Arcade Edition” comes with a Quick Game mode, six court locations to play in, and full keyboard and controller support.
Up to four players can play together via local multiplayer or Steam’s Remote Play Together. Players can also compete against AI teams. The game includes funny commentary in Tagalog, English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Purchasing the Early Access version entitles players to free updates further down the line, including a Campaign node; Create Player, Shop, and locker features; extra basketball court locations, additional music and voice-overs, and more.
Mobile game “Basketball Slam” was Ranida Game’s first title when the company was founded in 2015.
“As a result of the current global pandemic, PBA has stopped their league indefinitely,” said Ranida Games Managing Partner Walter Manalo. “Since timing is an issue and PBA fans are hungry for any sports activity, we decided to create a PC version of the game and branded it as ‘PBA Basketball Slam: Arcade Edition.’”
“Bringing ‘Basketball Slam’ to PC will allow more players to enjoy the game and will also allow us to enhance the game further,” said Ranida Games CEO Ben Banta. “We’ve been able to polish the user interface and experience for the PC version, and more features will be added as we go through development.” — LA, GMA News
