Pinoy Dota player defeats 2-time world champion N0tail in 1v1 showmatch
A Filipino gamer from Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) scored an upset victory in a 1v1 battle against two-time Dota 2 world champion Johan "N0tail" Sundstein.
Zedrik "Jeff" Dizon earned the chance to face the Danish star after winning the R1v1r Runes Philippines tournament held across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao last May.
He then orchestrated a come-from-behind win against Sundstein at the competition’s final "Civil War" event on Monday.
N0tail won the first match, Juggernaut vs Juggernaut, in a 3-0 sweep. The Atenean responded in kind in the second match, Windranger vs Windranger.
In the third and final match, Undying vs Undying, Jeff completed his comeback with a with a 3-2 victory.
N0tail was the team captain of OG, who became the first Dota 2 team in history to win back-to-back championships at the esport's biggest tournament, The International (TI), in 2018 and 2019.
Jeff, who debuted during the Luzon qualifier, emerged as the 2020 R1v1r Runes Champion with a score of 4 – 0, and a set win of 100%.
Red Bull R1v1r Runes is a local tournament that takes place on a custom map built in the Dota 2 environment that pits players in a fast-paced 1-versus-1 mirror battle.
