Young Pinoy inventor develops motion-activated, hands-free alcohol dispenser

Now that observing proper hygiene is essential amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a young Filipino inventor has developed a motion-activated and hands-free alcohol or liquid soap dispenser.

The dispenser is the latest invention of electronics and communications engineering student Angelo Casimiro, according to Rida Reyes’ “24 Oras” report Saturday.

Angelo said he thought of this project during the lockdown, and created it using recycled materials like coffee jars, old USB cables, and plastic tubes.

He explained that he set up the device with a pump, transistor, and low-cost motion sensors.

“Importante kasi ’yung hygiene, lalo na ngayon, so makakatulong pag naging contactless ’yung paghawak ng dispensers,” he said.

Angelo also made a public awareness video on TikTok on how to properly wash hands and apply alcohol or hand sanitizer especially during this time.

Since he was 10 years old, Angelo had been creating inventions and sharing them online.

These projects include a DIY powerbank, water-powered flashlight, and working life-sized Star Wars BB8 Droid, which he made out of a beach ball, papier-mâché, and Styrofoam.

Angelo had been recognized at Google Science Fair Philippines for his electricity generating in-sole footwear, which could charge a cell phone.

He said Filipinos were naturally resourceful and therefore “think of ways how we can help the environment but at the same time, ways para makatipid tayo, tapos hindi nagsa-sacrifice ng quality.”

Angelo added that old and discarded materials may prove to be beneficial in other purposes. “Why not ’yung purpose nung mga lumang materials (ay) para gumawa ng mga products or at least mga contraptions or machines na pwedeng makatulong,” he said. – RC, GMA News
