Pinoy-made RPG ‘Grand Guilds’ coming to Nintendo Switch, PC this March 26
Pinoy-made epic fantasy RPG “Grand Guilds” will be released for the Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Utomik on March 26, 2020, its Philippine-based publisher, Keybol Games, announced.
“Grand Guilds” will go live on the Nintendo eShop this March 18, 2020 for those who want to pre-purchase the game.
Developed by Naga City-based Drix Studios, “Grand Guilds” is a story-driven, tactical turn-based RPG featuring unique card combat mechanics.
“Grand Guilds” is set in Irin, a continent currently under the rule of the Triton Empire.
You assume the role of Eliza, who returns to the city of Ozryn only for her home to be ravaged by hordes of mysterious creatures. When her guild discovers the entire continent has been subjected to similar attacks, she decides to embark on a quest to find out who’s behind them. It’s an adventure that’ll eventually involve the land’s four guilds.
“Recent events have shown what a fragile thing peace can be. Only the guilds, independent organizations of remarkable people, keep the realm from tipping into chaos,” said Drix Studios.
As Irin teeters on the brink of another war, Eliza must gather new allies to unveil the truths about the attacks and stop the menace that has taken their beloved world hostage.
Tactics, cards, quests, and more
As a tactical turn-based RPG, combat in “Grand Guilds” entails the strategic positioning of your characters in relation to the enemy, the exploitation of any advantages the environment offers, and the clever use of your units’ strengths.
One of the game’s core system involves its deck-building and card combat mechanics. As you explore the world of Irin, you’ll obtain a rich variety of skill cards. Your characters can equip these cards to gain access to special abilities, such as devastating physical attacks, powerful magical spells, healing, teleportation, and more. Because you can freely customize each character’s skill decks, you can tailor their playstyle as you see fit.
More abilities are unlocked by leveling up your characters and completing quests.
Speaking of quests, “Grand Guilds” features procedurally generated missions called Guild Quests. Upon completion, these yield bountiful rewards and raise your guild’s reputation, allowing you to enjoy bonuses that can prove useful in combat.
Outside of combat, you’ll explore the vast world of Irin on the airship, Mami. There are multiple locations to visit, people to meet, secrets to uncover, and dynamic events to trigger.
“Grand Guilds” comes with diverse characters, each of whom has their own motivation for joining you on your adventure. Each also boasts unique mechanics enabling them to fill various roles in your party, including damage dealer, support, and tank. Thanks to voice actors, you can hear these characters use short phrases to express their feelings during dialogue, and shout out their special moves in battle.
The game’s epic fantasy story is advanced through animated cutscenes and dialogues presented through a visual story-style format.
“Grand Guilds” was successfully funded within 50 hours of the launch of its Kickstarter campaign in 2019. It then went on to receive over $30k in pledges.
There are plans to release “Grand Guilds” on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
