There is now an Andres Bonifacio-inspired character in Pinoy-made fighting game 'Bayani'
“Bayani,” the 1-on-1 2D fighting game inspired by Philippine history, has a new playable fighter. Meet Dre, a character based on Philippine national hero Andrés Bonifacio.
In “Bayani,” Andrei Bonifacio a.k.a Dre is a revenant; a corpse brought back to life through forbidden alchemical arts.
With Dre in the game, 5 of the 9 characters making up “Bayani’s” initial roster are now playable.
Dre is the main feature of the game’s September 18, 2019 update—the first major update for “Bayani” since its June 12, 2019 Steam Early Access launch.
Said update comes with other features, including: Oria’s stage, Campo Monumento, which is based on a real, historically significant location in the Philippines; Dre’s character theme, which can be selected as battle background music; and numerous gameplay improvements.
“We are very much excited for Dre to become a playable character,” said Ben Banta, CEO of “Bayani” developer Ranida Games. “He is our very first character outside of our Early Access launch and we made sure to use everything we’ve learned from all the feedback we’ve gotten. We’ve got a lot of input, suggestions, and criticisms from the community and we are using all of those to improve the game even more.”
On September 28 and 29, fighting game tournament REV Major 2019 played host to an official “Bayani” side tournament. It produced the following top placers: NM.Tonton (1st place), CADPgamer (2nd), and Pink (3rd).
Ranida Games will also be an official exhibitor at the Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit (ESGS) 2019 this October 25 to 27 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City, where we can expect another “Bayani” tournament. — LA, GMA News
