Overwatch’s new hero is a spider-like robot

The new “Overwatch” hero has been revealed, and it’s a huge, spider-like robot named Orisa. She has yet to be officially launched, but those on the PC can give her a spin on the game’s public test realm.

You can watch Orisa’s origin story below.

In the following video, “Overwatch” director Jeff Kaplan discusses Orisa’s backstory and abilities.

Orisa is a 2-star difficulty Tank hero. Here is her official description on her hero page:

“Orisa serves as the central anchor of her team, and defends her teammates from the frontline with a protective barrier. She can attack from long range, fortify her own defenses, launch graviton charges to slow and move enemies, and deploy a Supercharger to boost the damage output of multiple allies at once.”

Orisa uses the Fusion Driver as her primary weapon. This is an “automatic projectile cannon” that “delivers sustained damage.” However, firing the weapon slows down her movement speed.

An ability called Fortify allows her to temporarily reduce the amount of damage she takes. It also makes her briefly invulnerable to “action-impairing effects.”

With Halt!, she launches “a graviton charge which she can detonate, slowing nearby enemies and pulling them towards the explosion.”

Protective Barrier has her throwing out “a stationary barrier that can protect her and her allies from enemy fire.”

Lastly, there’s her ultimate ability, Supercharger. With this, “Orisa deploys a device to increase damage inflicted by allies within her line of sight.”

Prior to Orisa’s reveal, Blizzard released several images and new lore hinting at the identity of the game’s 24th hero. Chief among these was the reveal of an 11-year-old robotics genius named Efi Oladele, who hails from the fictional African city of Numbani. It was previously thought that Efi herself would be the hero. Good to know that she isn’t – having a child in a game where someone can shoot her in the face is not something that will go down well in the gaming community.

Another hint was an image that showed various “Overwatch” heroes fighting a robotic spider.

Expect more news about Orisa in the upcoming weeks. — TJD, GMA News
